Arranging a Funeral - gentle guidance when you need it most

Arranging a funeral can feel overwhelming at a time when you’re already navigating deep emotion. We’re here to support you with clarity, care, and a calm presence, helping you make meaningful choices that reflect the life being honoured.

At Collingwood Funeral Home, we take the time to listen, guide, and walk with you through each step — so you can feel confident that every detail is understood and respected.

What happens first

When someone dies, there are a few practical steps that need attention before planning the service. In most cases, a doctor or nurse will confirm the death and issue a certificate of cause of death — this is an important legal requirement before any funeral arrangements can proceed.

If you choose to work with a funeral director, they will help manage this process for you, including registering the death with Births, Deaths and Marriages.

From the moment you contact us, our team will be in close communication with you, providing guidance and ensuring the practical steps are taken care of with professionalism and respect.

Your first meeting with us

Once you’re ready, we’ll arrange a time to meet - either here at the funeral home, or in a setting where you feel most comfortable. In that meeting we’ll talk through the following:

  • Your wishes for the service

  • Whether you prefer burial, cremation, or another approach

  • Service location and timing

  • Personal elements you’d like included

  • Practical arrangements like notices and documentation

We’ll explain the options clearly and compassionately, taking the pressure off you while helping you make informed decisions.

Choices you can make

Every funeral is unique, and there’s no single “right” way to say goodbye. Some of the decisions we can help you with include:

_____

Type of Service

Traditional chapel service, contemporary farewell, celebration of life, or something personal and unique to your loved one.

_____

Burial or cremation

Whether you choose burial, cremation, or another form of farewell, we’ll explain what each option involves and ensure the necessary arrangements are made.

_____

Personal Touches

Music, readings, photos, ceremonial elements — anything that reflects the personality and values of the person being remembered.

_____

Practical Details

Notices, transportation, documentation, and legal requirements — we help coordinate and take care of these on your behalf.

Supporting you through the journey

We believe that compassion, clarity, and personal support are just as important as practical arrangements. From your first call through to the day of the service (and beyond), we’re here to:

  • Take care of the logistics with sensitivity

  • Answer your questions in clear, simple terms

  • Help you navigate decisions at your pace

  • Provide reassurance when you need it most

Arranging a funeral is ultimately about creating a meaningful farewell — and we are honoured to walk that path with you.

"I can’t recommend Collingwood highly enough. The team go above and beyond. In a time of extreme sadness, they make things more bearable simply by being so genuinely caring, thoughtful and supportive. I know so many people who feel the same — they wouldn’t use anyone else.
Thank you team Collingwood for everything you do."
